Verse meaning

Those of your women who commit adultery, call four witnesses against them[1] from amongst you. If they testify, confine them to their homes until they die or Allah ordains for them [another] way[2].

[1] The four witnesses must testify that they actually saw the act taking place. [2] The provision of this verse has been abrogated. The Prophet (ﷺ) explained the “way” ordained by Allah: “Take it from me! Take it from me! Allah has ordained a way for them…” [Muslim: 1690]. The unmarried are to be lashed, as ordained in Surat an-Nūr (24:2), and the married are to be stoned to death, as established by the Sunnah.
